Enhanced Sufficient Battery Model for Aggregate Flexibility of Thermostatically Controlled Loads Considering Coupling Constraints

چکیده

This letter proposes an enhanced sufficient battery model (ESBM) as well a binary search algorithm for improved inner-approximation of the aggregate flexibility thermostatically controlled load (TCL) arrays. Compared with previous work on generalized models, our ESBM preserves merits being and reduces conservativity. Moreover, unlike works ignoring coupling constraints (e.g., regarding distribution network where TCL individuals are physically connected) that may significantly restrict TCLs' flexibility, can readily handle these constraints. Numerical tests validate significance using power system operations.

Best-Response Planning of Thermostatically Controlled Loads under Power Constraints

Renewable power sources such as wind and solar are inflexible in their energy production, which requires demand to rapidly follow supply to maintain an energy balance. Promising controllable demands are heat buffers that use electricity to maintain a temperature at a setpoint. Such Thermostatically Controlled Loads (TCLs) have been shown to be able to follow a power curve using reactive control...

Modeling and Control of Thermostatically Controlled Loads

As the penetration of intermittent energy sources grows substantially, loads will be required to play an increasingly important role in compensating the fast timescale fluctuations in generated power. Recent numerical modeling of thermostatically controlled loads (TCLs) has demonstrated that such load following is feasible, but analytical models that satisfactorily quantify the aggregate power ...

Efficient Desynchronization of Thermostatically Controlled Loads

This paper considers demand side management in smart power grid systems containing significant numbers of thermostatically controlled loads such as air conditioning systems, heat pumps, etc. Recent studies have shown that the overall power consumption of such systems can be regulated up and down centrally by broadcasting small setpoint change commands without significantly impacting consumer co...

Learning to Shift Thermostatically Controlled Loads

Demand response is a key mechanism for accommodating renewable power in the electric grid. Models of loads in demand response programs are typically assumed to be known a priori, leaving the load aggregator the task of choosing the best command. However, accurate load models are often hard to obtain. To address this problem, we propose an online learning algorithm that performs demand response ...

Efficient Heuristics for Power Constrained Planning of Thermostatically Controlled Loads

Thermostatic loads are promising energy buffers that could be unlocked through Demand Response. Existing research has shown that an aggregation of thermostatic loads can be made to follow a power curve using reactive control. In this paper we investigate the use of planning to proactively control an aggregation of Thermostatic Loads as storage to overcome temporary dips in power availability. W...
